Feeling Lost In All The Data?
It is easy to feel lost and overwhelmed - we have access to more data than at any other time in human history.
Data literacy is a skill that empowers all levels of employees to ask the right questions of data, make decisions, and communicate data with others. Not just the data scientists, statisticians, and engineers need to be data literate. Data literacy is an explicit and necessary driver of business value today.
As such, it helps everyone, regardless of role, to contribute to their organization's competitive edge. Data literacy will soon be an explicit and necessary driver of business value. There are vast differences between people who feel empowered and proficient with data, and those who don't. To close this gap, organizations must first understand where teams are in terms of their analytical capabilities and comfort.
There are 5 maturity levels of data literacy:
1. Data Agnostic. Employee who does not really believe in or trust data, and does very little, if any, analysis.
2. Data Collector. Employee who collects data, is aware of its value, but unsure what to do with it.
3. Data Historian. Employee who wants to extract value and understanding from data and solve problems, but has limited tools to do so.
4. Data Smart. Employee who wants to know why things have happened and is able to extract some insights from data using dedicated analytical tools.
5. Data-Driven. Employee who uses data to make decisions in all aspects of their role, using a range of tools for analysis, including advanced statistics.
