Daily Process Improvement (DPI)
Daily Process Improvement (DPI) is a team-based approach to improve process performance and provide the foundation for breakthrough improvement using Six Sigma. Process teams follow a structured 16-week roadmap to establish key metrics, standard work practices, and daily processes for monitoring and sustaining improvement. They also use data-based root-cause analysis tools to identify, eliminate and/or manage sources of variation within their daily control.
DPI can easily be integrated with an organization’s Six Sigma, Lean and/or ISO 9000 efforts. The DPI 16-week process follows the Six Sigma DMAIC process improvement model. It also uses key concepts of waste reduction and visual management. And, DPI’s disciplined use of documentation, training, and auditing fit well with ISO 9000. Implementation consulting and training is available for all levels of the organization:
Prioritization Workshop
Description: Initial implementation of DPI should focus on the critical few strategically important processes in the organization. This interactive workshop will lead organizational leaders through a four-step process to identify, scope, prioritize, and charter a critical few (2-3) process/projects for DPI implementation.
Length: Two-to-four hours, depending on the clarity of the department’s strategic direction.
Materials: training materials and handouts for each participant.
DPI Champion Training
Description: This interactive workshop provides the leaders and support resources an overview of DPI and their role as leaders to establish a culture of discipline and improvement. This workshop must be conducted in advance of DPI core team training; it may be conducted in conjunction with the Prioritization Workshop.
Length: Core team training is two-hours
Materials: training materials and handouts, laminated job aids for each participant.
Core Team Workshop
Description: This interactive workshop focuses on the tools and methods in the structured 16-week roadmap. It includes team-building, hands-on exercises, and time to start DPI on the assigned process.
Length: Core team training is two-and-a half days
Materials: training materials and handouts, laminated job aids and Memory Jogger 2 book for each participant.
